Tahitian Black Pearls are really black? Or did he get the name because of another reason?
The short answer is "No". Although Tahitian pearls are often referred to as black pearls or black pearls of the South Seas, they are rarely in the dark. Instead, Tahitian pearls are in addition to 80 distinct colors. Most common are gray and green. Although actual Tahitian black pearls exist, true blacks are very rare. Tahitian pearls are called "Black" pearls in part because they are pearls that develop naturally in dark colors. Other commonly grown varieties Pearl (the South Sea, akoya, freshwater) are never black or dark unless dyed. Also, Tahitian pearls are produced by the Pinctada margaritifera, which is also known as the black-lipped oyster. Fr marg. has obtained its common name because of the lining of the dark cloak of the interior shell. The cloak is also responsible for the color of pearls.
