Advice on a softer, quieter snare drum?
I join a new group that plays "Americana" much smaller stage volumes of music concerts of my past and am looking for advice on a soft trap more. I currently use a free-Pearl float with a brass shell and Puresound snares it sounds amazing but I would really need to change my playing style to suit this group with its path- strong. So I'm looking into the traps of wood, but it seems that all the hyperbole has marketing words like "cup", "crack" and others LOUD sounding adjectives. I need gentleness. Any advice would be appreciated. Yes, I went from 747 to PROMARK 7a Regal Tip Jazz. Diffinately did my lap ping (22 ") of its prettiest, but this trap brass still wants to rock!
