What kind of jewelry is the best buy in Thailand? Gold, silver, diamonds, precious stones, etc.? All the above?
I'll go Thailand in a few weeks, and I've always heard that you can get a lot of jewelry. I'm not sure where to go, or even what to look for. I would buy something for my wife. So, anyone know where to find the best offer, and what kind of jewelry in particular, is really a bargain in Thailand? (I'll be in Bangkok and Chiang Mai).
Thailand is the largest exporter of gemstones in the world to I would say that all the above. As for the poster above, it is not correct. Thai gold can vary from 14 to 18 to 22 K. You've got to check before buying. There is a large gold mine in Uttaradit, and somehow Australian company has won the concession for the dig. They dug essential commercial production viable already. Or are exported for processing in Australia and if Thailand wants, they need to redeem and re-import consumption.
