Amway Is this the biggest scam since the turn password?
MLM, (Multi-Level Marketing) What is it?
It is basically flawed since its creation!
As the world Muslims, illegal immigrants and gay marriage, little readers participate in a debate over MLM: Multi-Level Marketing.
This author has studied both face and deal with MLM the sidelines for 38 years. Our company has spent over 100,000 hours reviewing interviews, newspaper articles, court decisions and others, and we present these data for you. In addition, the author admits a bias. Now that we both realized that I'm not a totally neutral party, leave the exam begins.
It is possible MLM that began before 1969, but the most public announcement of its existence was when the two founders of Amway was able to recruit "the Independent Representatives and therefore, the world of IR began pure. In addition, this business model, which researchers say is one of the benefits put in place Foresight Independent Representative was that it was an ideal way to earn money for the housewife stuck at home or the unemployed person has "NO sales was necessary." After all, everyone had soap and most people liked the idea of earning extra cash, why not celebrate with good snacks, music, and chatting and the possibility of having people representing a company that was mature, had representatives of other around the city very well and soap to sell. In most of these parties, the parents would be developed this system since the idea was that parents would not think they were sold and parents soap needed. And why not help parents earn money to spare too. He never seemed odd that everyone who "Joined" was asked to buy a "kit" which sold at a cost of $ 25 to $ 100, depending on where they lived and when we joined. While the Attorney General of each state is inevitably called in to review image size "levels", there were often 12. We had the two founders and its first officers who branched out of their homes. The company needed a home office and distribution, so that these people were at the highest level, or, seen more clearly at the bottom of the "Pyramid".
All businesses that sell products must either make the products [Require raw materials and packaging materials] or buy them from wholesalers.
These products are therefore a cost to Amway Corporation and the specific needs of a margin to cover their operating costs and provide a profit. That's what all businesses need to stay in business.
Assuming for the sake of argument, that a soap box [author met a "intermediate" Representative when he was asked to check records] Cost of the representative, $ 5.00, this cost would be to provide for its own benefit Amway necessary. Anything above that, then started to provide a benefit for the new field representative.
Then, VP of operations, for example, would then "recruit" 6 people to his or her good friend from home. Maybe 12 people came to this "Hello party." These 6 people used to purchase a kit and each of this, the vice president might be pocket $ 10.00. Amway would net more than $ 35, since soap $ 5.00 Amway to provide its benefit. It is assumed business cards and brochures costs of less than 0.10 total to provide.
Now we two partners, a team of employees to get the soap on the door and the vice-president with 6 new Representatives.
The next month, or Then, these 6 new representatives would, in their respective districts, the parties to recruit new / more independent representatives. Soon soap box cost $ 5.00 cost 0.50 Real Amway because a ton of it was done at the same time. Years later, the same soap could cost less than 0.01 while hundreds of tons of it was made at the same time. Since the soap is almost the same feature of all time, its margin $ 4.99 Gross could support a large number of representatives.
Within ten years of Amway showing their independent agents / representative approach and recruitment, Princess House, Mary Kay Cosmetics. Tupper Ware and others have begun to adopt this method of growing their businesses.
As it is obvious to the reader, this method of "selling" is called multi-level marketing. The moment the system been utilized, the Attorneys General of each state began to receive complaints about agents / representatives of the people or induce in error control with promises of profits that never materialized.
This author has met with various independent MLMs and he was surprised that those professions appeared to be highly regarded agents in this area as well. And insurance companies, real estate agencies and others have begun to adopt this system, much to the amazement of the author.
In addition, because this world has a lot of travelers, This system began to spread worldwide.
The law, while saying things, includes a provision that no society can not say they are in a company and yet their actual activity is mainly that of other recruitment. This recruitment may be confused with the agency business employment. In the area of professional license or recruitment of employees, a company has paid a fee to search and help a leasing company, the employees of one or more employers. In MLM, the Independent Representative never pay anyone anything from his pocket. The representative seeks not one for anyone else it looks only more representative of representatives of its own distribution system that MLM world called "Down the line."
This representative makes money in three ways: it sells kits New Representatives. He won money from the sale of soap to its own customers [of which there are rarely many] and he makes money from the sale of soap that its representatives and its representatives and their representatives to sell. And so on and on. This organizational structure is also called a pyramid. Most pyramids are illegal. It has been shown to the court that most of the pyramids will require more people than exist on Earth to provide benefits to level 12 representatives. It is for this reason that the attorney general of most states winds up MLM representatives continued to have violated at least the right being in a company whose core business is recruiting for MLM.
In MLM, the founders also often sell "Motivation" bands that are supposed to bring independent agents to "hang there" and keep knocking on doors, or having several parties to maintain cash flow up.
What errors, defects and problems in MLM:
Firstly, they violate the law Recruitment [can not recruit anyone, and the independent agent is not a company].
Second, plan a party or system recruitment program assumes that her friends and parents will be happy to make money this way and, of course, the support officer's family by purchasing this soap a price two to five times more than other costs for retailers of equal quality and quantity of soap.
Third, the independent representative is obliged to buy a "kit" that representatives "Normal" cases are given away free.
Forth, when the energy agent prepares to open a retail store, to facilitate sales, procurement Representative [High Representative in line, if you want] will inform the officer that sales of the retail site are not allowed "as it will provide an unfair advantage to these agents who can not afford to pay for a retail site. "[This happened to the writer of this report as it has experienced and informed that he was representing an alleged purchase of fifty cases of products and sell them from a site [store] in which fixed The representative said: "I will cease providing you and make sure you do Amway offer is if you have a point of sale. "
This author challenged a level 6 Amway Representative twelve years ago, in a duel of sale. I argued that if I could sell my product in his office vs. his way, and we had a week to earn our revenues and profits, that I sell him two to one. 25 people before he was training, he chose not to accept my bet-double. He would have lost.
Any "College Business School taught" method of distribution / sale will be more performance than MLM.
This is why:
First, the person MLM "habit" will seek representatives. It will two weeks to prepare a presentation to a house, hotel or other, and the hope of "Hook" five to ten percent of its audience to become agents for him and Amway.
Thus, in this example, I started to find retail sites to make my product for I visited their clients and laundry-mat to see if I could sell and I removed the tag and introduced this product Local grocery chains close to my cost just to move the retail sales is required after the first month.
I want to keep my low profit margin from -15 to 20% instead of several hundred per cent required the Amway.
I might be able to sell 1,000 boxes of soap at the end of my second week and my competitor using the party or seminar approach, maybe 10 boxes will be sold only those boxes that are in "kits" that the MLM companies and ask their agents to sell to new representatives.
In addition, when I talk to agents who boast of their down-lines-have perhaps 15 to 25 officers below them [they can not earn money from their own agents recruited, not those above them as in the sharing of profits that other companies use that are not in MLM] how their actual sales made, I think the average officer on sale online is perhaps 1 to 2 boxes of product per week. This amount of product would give the agent a big maybe $ 35-50 dollars.
[The margin of each box to the officer who made the recruitment]. Then I ask the officer, "Are you the breakdown of operating costs for your business? When I ask that they either have no idea I speak, or they say "We have no operating costs, since we are not a full-time business or," We do not work not that way! "Because these agents have the party's expenses, transportation officials in seminars and houses, etc., they cost transport. When I ask questions about responsibility, they say "No." When I ask about advertising spending, "No." And the list goes on. No fees.
My ability to conduct an audit of a level 6 Amway agent came at a unique moment. I been in the game of seduction. It is on its way to recruit a new agent, this lady found me in AZ "desirable" and vice versa. In During our third week of meetings, I proposed to audit its books after listening to his stories and he visited the house and see Amway's property, and methods. She was upset that its net cash position of the bank was much less than it estimated that should have been.
I examined his papers, he compared his answers and said that over its history with the company and deduced analytically, instead of his net $ 35.00 per hour [1982], it was instead of clearing $ 5.62. She was struck horror. While she was proud of his wall of tapes that went online and had sold his agent has assured that it is recoverable agent Online would buy them all back to its original cost, she called and said, "You misunderstood me, we do not buy tapes. It would could make a big deal of his previous lies to her, but she decided not too.
She lost her house two months later and filed its balance sheet.
This author has never found a person who had an officer level for any MLM that grossed more than $ 5.70 an hour. These agents were, unfortunately, not only by the students of current or prior business, in college, but had never taken a course or read a book of accounts, so they had no idea how to examine the income statement or balance sheet.
I agree that with a trip to any public library, literature or education could be overcome.
Then, proliferation / invasion MLM Internet newsgroups worldwide.
This author is "owner" of several Yahoo groups, also known as newsgroups. Mine dispose of real property and businesses. I have a FAQ [Frequently Asked Questions], the words "No invitation MLM or "business" may be conducted on this group. "I have 25 groups. Each time I create a group, immediately, 25% of new Subscribers are agents MLM. And they have the audacity to admit it. "Wanted, officers opened the bottom lines in B and C cities, and nations."
When I ask my peers that have discussion groups on subjects similar or different, we find that 25% or more new subscribers are the same thing, promoting their MLM group despite a ban on same. Polite requests not to do so, are ignored.
Next, new agents I met.
Over the last 12 years I have met over the phone or in person, many agents Intermediate and new
with Amway, Excel [telephone service] and real estate companies. Each and everyone is excited when I first speak with them. "I love him," We do a lot of money, "etc.
The lady even told me Excel Service telephone long distance she was with MLM. I had not heard of this issue. I had a few minutes to kill him and asked, normal
I asked others who are above in this report as "Have you checked your finances? "How long have you been with them? And so on. If I have time for my third question, the armor they had to create to "protect their time and financial investment "begins to fade. For question 4, I get this" You know, we've been wondering why some of officers down the line that were so three months ago, not answering their phones or more at home when we call for their visit. "Or" You know, it's funny, but when we went to buy a new house / car / boat, we found that our income has not been as high as we thought and we did not have enough discretionary funds to pay for this new toy / house. "
And almost always, "How did you know?" [With regard to their presumed vs. net income until their line officer said he after they were] so months. The idea that a product or service should be priced high enough to allow multiple levels of staff / Agents for profit is rarely understood by the agents of MLM.
Sometimes I get a newly married person who is so excited by his new marriage and almost more excited by the new revenue it expects its new business with Amway. She is also puzzled when his family would not finance purchase the "kit", so the newlyweds would take money from the rent money or food, easily expect to earn enough money to replace that money. None of them ever do. So, I suggest they take the soap and sell it to a neighbor who knows she is going to laundry next Saturday and delete the rest.
What a costly lesson and the presumed loss of income. Even some marriages suffered when the ego of the young couple was injured by family members refusing to fund the "Kit" and the newlyweds "Divorced" from their parents because of it.
Keller Williams straddles the line when they offer new agents a fee for recruiting other new agents.
This real estate agency says it is purely profit-sharing that does not make much sense. With profit sharing, More officers there, the less profits per employee.
In some European countries and nations of the Middle East, the ethics of MLM makes their use prohibitive.
The primary law that is broken in the U.S. by MLM is the federal law on deceptive practices. More law where recruitment is the goal without major employers seeking employees.
Although I've never seen one, it is of interest:
"A Multi-level marketing opportunity is legitimate value of certain commercial purposes. Ask yourself, "What does the company sell? "An illegal pyramid scheme has no commercial purpose — rather the focus is on getting others to join.

Amway is a multi-level marketing (MLM, also known as the name of Network Marketing) company founded in 1959 by Jay Van Andel and Rich DeVos. The company name is an abbreviation of "American Way". [1] Based Ada, Michigan, personal care products, jewelry, food supplements, water purifiers, air purifiers and cosmetics. Wikipedia.
Ja-Ri Corporation was the distribution of multi-level marketing home for Nutrilite nutritional products, founded by Jay Van Andel and Richard DeVos in 1949. name [3] Ja-Ri comes from the names of the founders' first, Jay and Richard. Friends since childhood, Van Andel and DeVos became business partners in efforts as a burger stand, air charter services, and a shipping business.
Ja-Ri was incorporated in 1959 and changed its name to "Amway" in 1963.
With regard to legal actions:
In 1979 In re. Amway Corp. (93 FTC 618) ruling, [7], the Federal Trade Commission found that Amway does not qualify as an illegal pyramid scheme since the main purpose of the business is the sale of goods and money is paid only for business volume, personal and group. He did, however, to change practices Amway several companies and prohibits society distort the amount of profit, earnings or sales its distributors are likely to reach. Amway was ordered to accompany these statements with the actual averages per distributor, pointing out that more than half of the distributors do not make money, with the average distributor earns less $ 100 per month. The order has been violated by an advertising campaign 1986, resulting in a $ 100,000 fine
In 1983, Amway pleaded guilty tax evasion and customs fraud criminal in Canada, which carries a fine of 25 million Canadian dollars, the largest fine ever imposed in this country. The company was fined another $ 45 million USD in 1989 to settle a lawsuit brought by the office Canada's trade. [10] [11] [12]. In a 1994 interview, co-founder Rich DeVos of Amway said that this incident had been his greatest "challenge moral and spiritual "first in" soul search to see if they had done nothing wrong, "and for pleading guilty for reasons techniques, despite believing they were innocent of the charges. DeVos said he believed the case had been motivated by "political reasons" [13].
[To avoid further negative publicity for the moment]
In 1999, the founder company Amway has launched a sister (and separate) Internet-based company named Quixtar. The company has two Alticor Amway and Quixtar and several other concerns. Quixtar replaced the North American business of Amway in 2001, Amway operates in the world. Sales Internet Amway in Europe are conducted via their website Amivo. The Access Business Group was split to handle manufacturing.

March 2000
Fourteen Melaleuca distributors have sued their upstream and society on charges that have become too familiar the followers of MLM lawsuits. The crux of this case rests on allegations that the company and its representatives knowingly, fraudulently and persistently misrepresented their distributor retention rate.
Distributor retention is vital to the success of any MLM company, because you have to be able to sponsor new people faster than the old quit. In the landmark decision of the FTC in 1979, Amway has testified at a retention rate 50%, which was excellent for the direct selling industry. This means that in a given year, 50% of the distributor force quits. Anyone eager to succeed in sponsorship would sponsor two for everyone they want to keep.
So (according to the complaint), instead of a average attrition rate of only 5.5% per year, as they had been led to believe, Holton found that the dropout rate was 66% annual real per year – a huge difference. Kim Holton, who had sponsored people she cared about, was thrown into a severe depression and ended committed suicide, leaving her husband and son.

Multi-Level Marketing (MLM) companies like Amway and Nu Skin are known for hyping their "business opportunities" and promising wealth to those who "work hard" to "build the company." However, a closer examination reveals a side very dark for the MLM industry, as the following testimonial from a seasoned MLMer will demonstrate:
My wife and I have been involved in the MLM industry for 20 years. We have built many large raids and we came to the following conclusions well reasoned.
We are tired of building large downlines to see them disappear, companies go out of business, regulatory actions, proceedings, poor Press, distributors, etc. are along for a ride in a cart pulled by someone else.
Sell lots of products is good, but the idea of marketing a business opportunity for prospects when we know the number is unethical for us. In its purest form, MLM is a viable method of marketing if it focuses on products and not primarily the business. Selling the dream of independence with financial MLM is a mirage for the 90 +% of distributors. The MLM industry statistics are that on average only 10% of distributors get a check commission each month. Of these 10%, 80% do not do enough to maintain itself as a full time income. Statistics of the company in the industry show that 90% distributors abandonment of each company within 1-2 years. The distributor churn is terrible.
Anyway you cut it, MLM is not statistically working for 90 +% of those involved. And those who make the big bucks are in an elite group – usually 1 / 10 of 1% of all distributors.
We found that we could not sell the dream ethical MLM financial independence for all. It is impossible. For me to get $ 10,000 + a month I have to build it on the backs of all users, consumers and the little people – those who buy their $ 100 a month, whatever and do receive a check. This money flows upstream to distributors and the company of people who are not their qualifications month.
In MLM, you do not have your own business, you do not own the product, and you're not in control of your destiny. The company holds all the strings – The product offering, computer tracking, commissions, collections, customer service, order fulfillment, advertising, compliance, public relations, plan layout, everything. Everything you own is a position in a long line of distributors. You do not control the product you sell, the comp plan, or what the company does not do, the money is paid. . . Distributors own nothing but the opportunity to sign more distributors and manage the existing downstream. You are thank you for the company, upstream, downstream, the media and government.
That's why we're doing our own thing – developing our own products (books, information products), marketing and sales. We started four years ago. We have no one to answer us, except. We have control. We sell directly to customers, find more new customers, nurture this relationship, and make more sales. The most important point we have is our list of clients and the relationship and goodwill.

Let's go through the list and comment:
Based on this analysis, I think the idea that the sectarian tendencies have MLMs has merit. I'll be the first to admit that excellence in any enterprise needs a passionate devotion. But this dedication is usually internal rather than external. When external "authorities" begin to crush identities of people with their own script, to the detriment of the people script, that's when problems start. I think this happens mostly with MLMs given the dismal statistics of MLM failures. When rigorous studies show the game as less risky than MLM, it's time to bail out of MLM.

Conclusion
AS there are people who are passionate about most every field of activity, This paper has shown that there are people. Although the author of this paper loved the creativity, he horrors of unethical behavior. He feels both sad and mad when the company takes advantage of the employee.
Although I agree with one of the speakers cited some, that "While some people are honest MLM, it is unfortunate that many have made it impossible for the" little. Your author needs to go further and return to beginning or the introduction of this document.
We syllogisms we can use here:
a; If a corporation has unlimited resources, may examine all the workings of each company and the idea of seeking wrongful conduct "and see what the wheels percent of all MLM were illegal vs. illegal. Unfortunately, such sources 24 / 7 opinion do not exist. Our body guard must do the best they can with what they have.
B, it was a hypothesis of this paper that the founders of MLM made assumptions that people would like the party system or the "Just do these simple things "and make lots of money while others for practice. The fact is that no company has more, can not or does not function as this.
This does not mean that money can not be passively invested and earn for himself, but MLM is not an investment [if it was it would be worse], there is an underworld created to look like a business, but not the characteristics of an ethical company.
C: MLM'ers must lie, cheat and steal to make money. In most cases it should sell kits worthless to make money at all. It night for families, relatives and acts worse than illegal drugs;
It offers products that are likely to value in itself but as products are offered so "odious", illogical, immoral and repugnant.
D As discussed above, I can take any product or service a MLM, and outperform
the MLM model! Thus, the model of Multi-level marketing is flawed from the start.
E. If a man stillborn is a very sad event, MLM should have been stillborn.
The only way to keep these unfortunate accident of creativity companies in life is to try to act like it's a [care needs of the client's] business, when in fact it only worry about himself.
Finally, more than one former member of the family MLM in this report has clearly stated:
And I paraphrase: "When you are offered a lot of money and the best that you can win DO EVERYTHING THAT YOU ARE told to do is earn the minimum wage or less, the system is terminally flawed.
Members are encouraged or forced to live and / or socialize with members of the group than others. "You must surround yourself with positive people! Negative people say: "Be realistic! HIV-positive people ask, 'What is possible? Most people die from the neck when they are adults! Stay away from them! They are thieves of dreams! "
Members are required to spend too much time to the group. Spend every moment "of the company's work" regardless of whether he ever you money.
submission of group members to cut off ties with family and friends, and give up personal goals and activities that were of interest before joining the group. Listen to some Amway tapes and learn how people have lost valuable relationships with families and friends, because Amway has become their passion for off-consumption. Very sad. It is as if the MLM company "crush" the personality of the rookie with his own scripts regardless of the script such damages may result.
The leadership induces guilt feelings in members in order to control them. Example:? "What you do not made phone calls today for your business How you going to get that new Mercedes (or big house, or quit your job or whatever other hot that you might have). "
The group teaches or implies that its supposedly exalted ends justify the means that members would considered unethical before joining the group (example: collecting money for fake charities). Contrary to MLM ethical practices include (1) Result outrageous claims not to be affected by "anyone" despite their arguments to the contrary, (2) tell people to "pretend until you do" (heard it from a band of Nu Skin Blue Diamond distributor), (3) encourage retail customers to use excessive amounts of product to boost resales (heard it a Another band of Nu Skin distributor).
The group leader is responsible for all authorities (as are, for example, military commanders and Ministers, priests, monks and rabbis of the names "mainstream"). MLMers do not like well-educated critical thinkers that can see through their smoke and mirrors, and regulators who expect FTC MLM companies to justify their outrageous allegations.
The group has a bias us against them mentality, which causes conflict with society in general. See above comments on employment in companies MLMs vs. America.
The group is elitist, claiming a special status and exalted for itself, its leader (s) and members (for example: the head is considered the Messiah or an avatar; group and / or Head has a special mission to save humanity). MLMers "save humanity" with their products or business opportunities. The "bad guys" are American companies and foisting their job (Just Over Broke) on American "sheep". Never forget that it's much easier to manage life on a regular income to work on a no income, MLM or even negative.
The leadership sometimes requires great detail how members should think, act and feel (Example: members must get permission from leaders to date, change jobs, marry, leaders may prescribe the types of clothing to wear, where to live, how to discipline children, and so on).
