Where can I get my jewelry designs produced or manufactured in Manhattan?
I have some jewelry designs that I want to be produced Sterling Silver. I'm looking for small-scale production, perhaps just a / the artisan (s) looking for freelance work-type and would be willing to do even a few pieces at a time. I have the drawings, I do not have the resources and equipment to produce them myself. Any suggestions appreciated! I also think New York is great, but preferably Manhattan.
I would go attend art schools, workshops and try to learn about who would be interested. The best place to start is to talk to instructors, etc. but it takes much more effort on your part since you mainly do research. I doubt anyone here could suggest someone specific responses since yahoo has a wide range of topics. Another place to visit is Etsy (http://www.etsy.com) and place this module on their forums. Watch Some designers in your area, see if they are willing to work with you, if not see if they can suggest someone who might be interested. Finally, go to your local bookstore and look through the magazines bead jewelry / and contact persons who might be able to help. Most artisans with expensive equipment is usually already well-established designers, or do not have the equipment because they can not afford it because they are students. Indeed, there is a catch-22. You may have to work with a designer who has all the equipment before moving to production using your own equipment. Still, good luck to you and do not be discouraged. I'm sure you'll find someone if you put time and effort! Always follow up every lead person gives you. It's worth it! Good luck!
