Sterling silver, how to identify and clean
This guide will help you learn to identify quality silver jewelry and accessories.
Sterling Silver
Pure Silver, also called fine silver, is relatively soft, highly malleable, and easily scratched so it is often combined with other metals to make a stronger product. The most popular of these alloys is sterling silver, which consists of 92.5% silver copper and 7.5%. Although all metals can be up to 7.5% of the non-silver sterling, centuries of experimentation showed better improvement in copper metal hardness and durability without affecting its beautiful color.
The small amount of copper added to the Sterling has little effect on the value of the metal. In contrast, the price of the money is allocated by the work involved in making this point, the skill of the craftsman and the complexity of the design.
Identification Sterling Silver Quality
All high quality items money are imbued with a Silver “Sterling” or “925″ mark. This mark indicates the content of precious metal jewelry.

Because pure silver is so soft, it should be used when malleability is required, as in the jewelry made containing the hand weaving and other intricate designs. Sterling Silver is most often used for jewelry and accessories for the home because of its combination beauty and durability. Acceptable quality marks for sterling silver include:

Care
With proper care, your fine quality silver will last a lifetime. To minimize scratches and other damage, store your silver jewelry either in a pocket cloth or in a separate compartment in your jewelry box. Avoid exposing your money to household chemicals when cleaning with water bleach or ammonia, or when swimming in chlorinated water, that these chemicals can damage silver.
Clean your money!
Care must be taken to prevent silver tarnish build a dulling that naturally occurs when silver reacts with sulfur or hydrogen sulfide in ambient air. To clean your silver, use specific formulas to remove tarnish. You can find silver polish, solutions, or cloths designed to remove tarnish. These documents are available at most hardware stores crafts specialty. Tarnish is most easily removed when it becomes the first visible! So keep an eye on it!
